Holy spoilers, Batman! (I'd seen the wedding photos on the site when I checked it today, but it sounds like I was further along in the series before I got behind than I realized -- I think I'd seen everything else.)
I think your ideas here are interesting, both in this comment and in the following one about corporations. You're onto something in the second one particularly, I think -- the idea of the rebel against the corporation is definitely more of an underdog tale (traditionally what we Americans love), and since the corporation is the status quo, anyone fighting against it must color outside the lines a bit -- potentially breaking rules, or at least commonly accepted ideas, to do so. That could equate the rebel with villainy (as in Wicked, now that I think about it).
What that says about society at large? I've got no idea.
