I've been following Devon Monk's Magic series, but haven't tried the Age of Steam one. I'm afraid that I don't read enough non-genre fiction to recommend something. (I'm just happy to have caught up on my McGuire series (wait, what's the plural of series?) after falling behind during Mythopeic reading season).
