Wizards of the Coast Open Call

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] slwhitman:

Wizards of the Coast Discoveries, a brand new imprint debuting in January 2008, is looking for well-written speculative fiction. We will open for submissions September 1 and close for submissions January 15. Further guidelines can be found at http://www.wotcdiscoveries.com.

Agented submissions are welcome year round.

In January 2008, Discoveries will launch this exciting new imprint with Firefly Rain, a southern gothic ghost story by Richard Dansky. Further launch titles include Last Dragon by J.M. McDermott and Devil’s Cape by Rob Rogers, both first-time novelists who were selected from previous open calls.

Good Luck!

As it's adult fiction, I'm definitely not going to make this year's call. This is the third year they've done it, and it's probable they'll continue to do it in the future, though, so one of these years...

Oh, right after NaNoWriMo! Now to see if I have something that would fit the genre. :D

Submission Reminder

Thank you for posting this link to Wizards of the Coast's submissions. They have been holding these open fiction calls for the last few years and I always seem to forget until the time frame is nearly past.

if authors are on the fence about this

Howdy, Alana!

I'm J M McDermott, author of Last Dragon.

WotC is starting this open call for the third year in a row, but nothing they've bought is in print.

If other authors on the fence want to see an example of something that was bought, I'm willing to let them take a peek at just one chapter of my book, provided they promise not to upload it to ScribD or something awful and copyright violating like that.

My e-mail is in my blogger profile. (http://jmmcdermott.blogspot.com)
