I remember in 2000 hearing a mom, who was working on developing e-book technology, talk about her young son, who asked when he'd be able to read Harry Potter on his PlayStation. (It might have been a PS2. I don't remember the exact details.)

I do wonder about difference between reading ebooks and fanfiction, though. Is it the knowledge that you *can* get the ebooks in print, while the fanfiction exists only in an online space?
