I read more science fiction than fantasy. I occasionally read mysteries and thrillers. I'll just throw out a few names for you to consider and perhaps discuss.
The female protagonists in the novels Rapture (a vampire) and Bitten (a werewolf) didn't strike me as "men with boobs." They seemed like real women, to the best of my recollection.
Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot is a rather effeminate male detective and I like him. Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone is a female detective who acts female and she kind of bugs me. She seems to break into tears or go into a funk at least once a book.
Some of the best depictions of strong women who are women include George Perez's WONDER WOMAN and the SISTERHOOD OF STEEL comic book. If you haven't read them, check 'em out.
