I like the "have I changed too much to remain its author" issue. I spent three very angsty months back in China trying to write a spy novel that I'd been intending to write for years, only to discover that the issues which prompted me to write the book in the first place had shifted so much that the book wasn't a spy story any more. I ended up with a 80k literary novel, with about 70k on the cutting floor...

I've been going through much the same process with the sequel to Three Parts Dead, so I hear where you're coming from. You're inspiring me to go back into the first 60k words or so and tease out some different themes. I'd love to compare notes w/ you in greater detail.
