Due to concerns that my trusty old laptop (which I bought from a friend, used, in 2002) was about to crash and burn irrevocably, my husband and I decided to buy a new desktop. We already had the monitor. We could get a dual core processor and be speedy and hip. We'd have to get Windows Vista--something I'd wanted to avoid, because I'm not fond of change (see my January 23 entry).

As it turns out Vista has actually been pretty nifty... with two exceptions. One is that I can't download some of the nifty games I'd been waiting for a better processor to play. ("Bang Howdy" looks like an awesome free game; it's got nifty Western music. It doesn't like Vista.) The other is that Fox's MySpace account, which replays their TV shows, is completely incompatable with Vista. I was going to play "Drive" in the background today--in part because I'm enjoying it, and in part because I figure more downloads might help make up for its low ratings--but alas, I can't get it to work.

In other news, I've just found the lj button that replaced "My LJ" (which I miss) and lets me look at recent comments. I now wonder how many I missed before I found the button.

Eek. You do know that if you still want to have XP instead of Vista, you can, right? If Vista is working for you, I realize it is not a big deal. But, for now XP is still supported and relatively easily attainable.

Let me know if you would like help. I don't know if you were aware, but I do work at MS.

Heh, I just found out from [livejournal.com profile] waywardbound that Dell decided to let users choose either XP or Vista *after* I bought mine. Figures, no?

Actually, we're really enjoying Vista, except for the few problems I mentioned in my post. Once Fox catches up to, say, NBC's example, that'll take care of the problem. Not sure what to do about my games, but since I'm not done with novel #3, it's just as well.

Besides, we're going to go get Neverwinter Nights (which I never did get to finish, and our old disc broke) once I'm done with my current deadlines. I think that'll fill the niche... ;)

Does the My LJ page even exist anymore? I liked that page. It was so easy to find the links to everything on the same page. Now I have to hunt for everything again.

Related, do you know how to find the IP addresses when you have that option turned on? It doesn't simply show them to you anymore, and that annoys me.

Every once in awhile it shows up again, but it seems to be regularly inaccessible. I hope they bring it back.

As for IP addresses, I'm unsure--that may be a paid only option (since it's never come up for me, and I'm still using the freebie).

Well, this is a paid account, but I don't think it's a paid-only option. It's on the profile page, or something, where it asks if you want to allow anonymous commenting. If you allow it, it gives you the option to log IP addresses, but doesn't tell you where to *find* the log! argh.
