I am becoming quite the movie watcher lately. This is extremely odd for me, as I went on less than one movie a month (including rentals, television, in-theater, and library loans) for quite some time.

Tonight I'm about to admit to seeing a movie that will ruin any credibility that still remains (not that I'm likely to have much of that left). I should preface this admission with a few notes:

1) I'm an easy sell if the movie has good choreography.
2) I'm kind of an X-box nerd.
3) I enjoy movies that don't take themselves seriously, know exactly what they are (and who their audience is), and just embrace their cheese value.

So with those three statements made, I'll say that I just watched DOA: Dead or Alive, the movie version of a martial-arts-sex-comedy video game (all right, I stole that line from Ranma 1/2, but I'm not sure I'm wrong). It was decidedly hokey, but had choreography that, honestly, was better than most of the stuff I've seen in the superhero movies lately. Certainly better than Mortal Kombat. It was extremely fun.

Good movie? No. Will it last in theaters more than the week it's been released? Not likely. So if you were hoping to see it, tomorrow (Thursday) is probably your last bet. If you weren't, please disregard this blog post.

Ready? Fight!

I recently watched This Film Not Yet Rated and absolutely loved it. Funny documentary about the ratings process.

Recognizing that you watch higher-quality movies than I do--was it also entertaining? I'd been considering watching it because I read a bit about the people making it, but wasn't sure. The "d" word (documentary) always intimidates me. ;)

It's hilarious, and kinda sexy too!

I've heard that the movie is basically the same as the game - for amusement in not taking itself seriously and also eye candy to put it nicely.

And there's nothing wrong with enjoying cheese value. I like movies like that too!

That's pretty accurate. And also the great choreography. One of the things I love about the game is that the martial arts moves actually reflect real-life styles. The guy who uses Muy Thai looks like he's using Muy Thai; karate looks like karate; tai chi looks like tai chi.

Cheesy movies are good fun. My friends are excited about the Transformers movie, which can't hope to be anything but cheesy. We'll see. ;)

I'll have to check it out, but I don't remember seeing it at the theater across the field. I'll need to check it out again, maybe I just missed it. I happen to love those movies, like most of Uwe Boll's stuff (Alone in the Dark, Blood Rayne) which I don't consider taking itself seriously.

Then again, the list of movies I *don't* like is very, very small. I think I'm up to three on it. :)
