I've now finished Wicked Lovely and will be happily, cheerfully recommending it to all the YA readers I know (and several of my adult reader friends, too). It's just as good as the reviews say it is: character depth, solid plot, and a really vibrant alternate-world coexisting with our own. As I believe Ink Exchange will deal with some of the same characters, now I'm even more excited for that one--which is frustrating as I think it'll be some time before it's out and about!

One of the things I think [livejournal.com profile] melissa_writing does extremely well is the different points of view. As much as the reader is rooting for Ash (the human heroine) all along, it's hard not to sympathize with Keenan and Donia, who know what's at stake in the fae realm, which will trickle down to the human one as well. It wasn't until the characters reached their own solutions that I figured out who it was that I wanted to root for.

That's one of the things that got me thinking about my Tuatha de Danan story and made me reconsider how I'd pictured the character. [livejournal.com profile] bccreations mentioned today how many writers recommend working on short stories to improve the small bits of your writing, and I'm wondering if the stories that just split might be shorter than I expected. I think I may start on the Danan one soon and see where it goes.

I've also got that alternate Tam Lin story kicking around in my head from way back, which involved clubbing fairies who were related to the Tuatha, and may even be part of the same alternate-world as my new MC. So I think I'll read a little bit about the invasions, reread the ballad of Tam Lin, and see where the muse (fickle as she's been lately) take me.

And then I'll go back to writing about cowboys.
