Ad Words?

I've been thinking about ways to promote some of my projects, and in an e-mail exchange about publicity for Baeg Tobar, I noticed the advertisements in my gmail side bar. I click on those links all the time (although some of my friends, who also have gmail, ignore them completely). There are several independent or self-published book titles that come up regularly in my side bars, which got me to wondering if this kind of advertising really works.

Does anyone use google ad words? If yes, is it worth the money? If no, are there other ways to advertise online that you recommend instead?

The only person I know who advertises through Google is Adam, of Black Market Beagles. I have no idea what his experience has been like so far, but I'm sure he'd be more than happy to answer questions on it if you drop him an email. You should have his email address from the SFBrowncoats list, right?
