Happy New Year/Spring Festival! I picked up my Year of the Ox stamps at the post office last week. They always do something pretty and fun to mark the holiday, and I get to stick them on envelopes to extend the new year for a good couple of months.

I mostly use Google Chrome on my desktop, and it can have an amazing number of tabs open at once. This is the first time I think I've only been able to see the icons for each page.

Today was an amazingly busy day, in part because I made the silly decision to relax this weekend instead of getting ahead on my deadlines for this week. I did pop by the animal shelter today to find out what the requirements are for adopting (in part inspired by [livejournal.com profile] publius513, who now has a beautiful feline addition to her family). Our local shelter is on petfinder, so I can keep track of the potential adoptees as they come up. We're really thinking about a critter for now, rather than a cat, since we have many allergic friends (although we are both cat people). But to tide us over in the pet department, a rat would be a fun companion, and they're very smart (but sadly, rarely up for adoption).

You should understand that our not getting a cat represents our deep love for you and [livejournal.com profile] violetwhisper. ;)

Critters are good pets -- but some people are still very, very allergic to them. I don't recall if it was [livejournal.com profile] violetwhisper or someone else who was allergic to Sarge, but we had one person over who really couldn't be in the same room as him at all.

Of course, critters are much easier to compartmentalize. :)

The compartmentalization (without having to vacuum everything--which still doesn't make breathing work for some folks) is definitely one of the factors in favor of critters. So, I'm keeping an eye on PetFinder.com and we'll see when the shelter has something!
